How to shop a sex toy sale without wasting money
A sale is a good moment to buy the toy you already wanted and a bad moment to buy one you have not thought about. The difference is rarely the discount. It is whether the thing suits your body, your routine and the way you play.
Decide what you are missing first
Before you open the shop, name the gap in one line. If your only toy is a bullet, a broader vibrator is the useful purchase, not a second bullet in another colour. If you have never used internal toys, an anal toy is a poor first step, while a lube you already know you like is a safe buy at any discount.
Read the specification before the offer badge
The single most useful habit is to read the details panel. Length and girth tell you more than any photograph, and material decides what you can use with it: silicone must never meet silicone lube, while glass and metal work with anything. Our guide to how to read a sex toy listing walks through the fields that matter.
Two details decide whether a toy gets used. The first is power: a weak motor on a large shape is the most common disappointment, and our piece on battery powered vibrators explains run time and motor type. The second is cleaning: deep texture or a housing that cannot be wiped turns a toy into a chore.
Spend the discount on something you will use weekly
The best value in any sale is the item that joins your routine. For most people that is a rabbit, which covers internal and external stimulation in one hand. The Mina Orbit 2 in 1 Rabbit Vibrator is the sensible starting point, and the Mina Bloom 2 in 1 Rabbit Vibrator is softer and broader if the first shape looks too directed. Prefer a wide, rumbly sensation? A wand wins, and the Mina Flow Dual-Ended Wand Vibrator gives you two ends to work with.
For couples, the upgrade that changes the most is a toy one partner can control. The Rev Remote Controlled Come Hither and Vibrating Prostate Massager suits anyone curious about prostate play with someone else driving.
Stock up on the unglamorous things
Consumables are where a sale earns its keep, because you will buy them again anyway, and lube goes faster than anyone expects. A water based formula such as Sliquid Naturals H20 Waterbased Lubricant is the safe default for silicone, Sliquid Organics Natural Gel Thick Lubricant lasts longer on textured shapes, and Sliquid Naturals Sassy Anal Lubricant is the thicker formula for anal play. If you are unsure which family suits you, read how to choose the right lubricant before buying two bottles of the wrong one. The same logic applies to Loving Joy Cleanse Sex Toy Cleaner and to a 4 pack of AAA batteries, which costs little and saves an evening, and how often you should clean your toys is worth reading if your routine has drifted.
Buy one thing outside your comfort zone, not three
A sale is a fair excuse for one experiment, not a basket of them. Bound to Please Bondage Rope Black is the cheapest way into restraint play, and our rope guide for beginners covers the safety basics. Bound to Please Nipple Clamps and Chain is adjustable, and Leg Avenue Sheer Stockings With Backseam turns an ordinary evening into an occasion for very little outlay. Three unfamiliar categories in one basket means you try one, lose confidence in the other two, and waste the saving.
Check fit and delivery before you pay
Two practical checks catch most regrets. A stroker such as the Loving Joy Real Feel Male Masturbator Pleasure Stroker has an internal dimension that either suits you or does not, and every plug is the same, so compare against our butt plug size guide for beginners instead of guessing. Then remember that opened toys cannot be returned for hygiene reasons, so a sale purchase is final once the seal is broken. Delivery stays discreet on every order, with no shop branding on the parcel.
A short checklist
Ask yourself four questions before checkout. Do I know the measurements. Do I know the material and which lube it takes. Will I clean it without resenting it. Would I still want it at full value. Four yes answers means buy while the offer is live. Anything less means wait, because there is always another window.
Kegel balls and pelvic floor training: a practical guide
Kegel balls are one of the least glamorous things we sell and one of the most misunderstood. They look like a smooth weight or a short string of weights on a cord, and the idea is simple: you wear them for a little while and the muscles holding them in place get a gentle workout. Done sensibly, that can mean better bladder control, more awareness of the pelvic floor during sex, and a clearer sense of what feels good internally. Done carelessly, it means discomfort and a wasted afternoon.
This is practical guidance rather than medical advice. If you have pain, heaviness, or leaking that affects your day, a pelvic health physiotherapist or your GP is the right first stop, and far more useful than any product.
What the pelvic floor actually is
Your pelvic floor is a hammock of muscle running from the pubic bone at the front to the tailbone at the back. It holds the bladder and bowel up, wraps around the openings, and contracts during orgasm. Like any muscle it responds to use, and like any muscle it can be weak, too tight, or simply not very coordinated.
That last point matters. Many people assume the goal is to squeeze as hard as possible. In practice the skill is the release as much as the squeeze. A pelvic floor that is permanently clenched can cause pain and make penetration uncomfortable, which is the opposite of what you want.
Finding the muscles
The simplest way to locate them is to imagine you are stopping wind, then imagine lifting the same area up and in. You should feel a gentle closing and lifting rather than a squeeze of the buttocks or the stomach. If your thighs or tummy are doing all the work, you have found the wrong muscles.
Please do not practise by stopping your urine mid flow. It is a common tip and a poor habit, because doing it regularly can confuse the bladder.
Using the beads
Wash the beads before and after every use. Add a little water based lubricant to the beads and to yourself, then insert the first bead the way you would a tampon, angled slightly towards the base of your spine. The cord stays outside.
Start with one bead and wear it for fifteen to twenty minutes while you are at home and not doing anything strenuous. Remove it if you feel discomfort rather than a gentle effort. Build up over weeks, not days. A bead should feel like light resistance, never like a race.
The Party Color BOLY kegel training beads are a gentle starting point, a short string of small beads on a cord that suits first attempts. The Adrien Lastic Harmony Stones kegel balls are heavier and better once the movement feels natural, with a shape that stays put while you move about.
Never wear beads for hours, never sleep in them, and take them out if a partner could catch the cord. If anything hurts, stop.
Pressure, not force
The muscles work hardest on the lift you do while the beads are in place. Two or three short sessions a week is plenty to begin with. More is not better. If you are sore the next day, you overdid it.
Pair the beads with plain exercises you can do anywhere: five slow squeezes held for a few seconds, then five quick ones, once or twice a day. Stop if you cannot release fully between each one.
Keeping everything comfortable
Dryness makes beads drag and makes the whole thing unpleasant, so lubricant is not optional. The Sliquid Naturals H20 is a plain water based formula that suits silicone, and the Sliquid Organics Natural keeps the ingredient list short if you react to additives. Silicone lubricant is the one to avoid with silicone beads, since it can damage the surface.
Clean the beads with a dedicated cleaner rather than shower gel. The Loving Joy Cleanse spray is quick and safe on silicone, and our guide to how often to clean your toys covers the routine in more detail.
If you are going through perimenopause or menopause, dryness is often the thing that makes beads uncomfortable rather than the beads themselves. The YES vaginal moisturising gel in the larger size, or the smaller pack for trying it, is a moisturiser used regularly rather than a lubricant used at the time. Our guide to menopause and intimacy goes further on that.
Period products and the pelvic floor
If you use internal period products, the same principles apply: choose the smallest size that works, change it on schedule, and do not wear anything internally for longer than the maker says. The Femintimate Eve cup in small, the large, and the small with a curved stem are all soft silicone and sit lower than a tampon, which some people find easier.
When to stop and ask
See a professional if you have pain during insertion, a dragging or heaviness feeling, leaking when you cough or sneeze, or numbness. Nothing here is a substitute for an assessment, and pelvic health physiotherapy is available on the NHS in most areas.
Used with a bit of patience, beads are a quiet way to get to know muscles most of us ignore until something goes wrong. Start light, keep them clean, and let the effort stay gentle.
When your hands hurt: sex toys for grip and joint problems
A stiff wrist or an aching thumb changes the way you use a toy far more than most buying advice admits. Hold a small bullet for twenty minutes and the grip starts to matter. Reach for a button at the wrong moment and the mood goes. If you live with arthritis, carpal tunnel problems, fibromyalgia, a tremor, or the after effects of an injury, the toy that looks best in a photograph is often the wrong one, and the plain looking one that can be controlled from a phone is the one that gets used.
This is not medical advice, and it is not about curing anything. It is about the practical side: which features reduce effort, which shapes ask less of your hands, and how to set up a room so you are not stretching or twisting when you are already tired.
Why grip matters more than people expect
Vibrators are usually designed to be held in one hand, with a thumb on a button. That assumes a certain amount of strength and a certain amount of fine control, and both are the first things to go when joints are inflamed. The result is a familiar pattern: a toy gets held tightly, the hand cramps, and the whole thing stops being relaxing.
The fix is to move the work away from your hands. There are three ways to do it, and they combine well. Let someone else hold the controls. Let the toy hold itself. Or choose a shape that needs a whole hand and a forearm rather than a pinching grip.
App and remote controls take the strain
The single biggest improvement for sore hands is separating the toy from the button. An app controlled toy lets you set a pattern once and then leave it alone, and a remote hands control to a partner. The Svakom Phoenix Neo 2 is the clearest example: the adjustable arm means it can sit where it needs to without being pressed into place, and the app keeps the controls off the toy. Our guide to app controlled toys covers how the pairing works if you have not used one before.
A remote is simpler still, because there is no screen to look at. The Loving Joy remote controlled love egg and the Svakom Ella Neo both put the controls in a second hand, which is ideal when the second hand belongs to someone else.
Hands free shapes
Wearable toys are the other half of the answer. A panty vibrator sits in place with no grip at all, and the Mina Veil is designed for exactly that, held by the fabric rather than by fingers. A couples toy such as the We-Vibe Sync Go, the LELO Tiani 3 or the Svakom Winni 2 cock ring is worn during sex, which removes the need to hold anything at all while also leaving both hands free.
Suction toys are worth a mention because they work on contact rather than pressure. The Loving Joy Rose suction vibrator only needs to be rested in place, so a light touch is enough and there is no need to press hard.
Wands: a bigger handle is easier to hold
A wand looks like the opposite of an accessible toy, because it is large. In practice a large handle is easier than a small one: you close your hand around it rather than pinching, and you can rest the head against the body instead of gripping. The LELO Smart Wand 2 in the medium size is the balanced option, and the We-Vibe Wand 2 has a curved handle that sits in the palm.
Two things to check before buying a wand. First, the controls: a single button that cycles through speeds is easier than a row of small ones. Second, the weight. A large wand is heavy, and holding weight is a different problem from gripping. If the arm tires quickly, the medium size is the better choice.
For anyone buying for a partner, the Svakom Alex Neo 2 does the same job on the other side of the catalogue, taking the motion and the rhythm out of the equation.
Set up so you do not have to reach
Position matters as much as the toy. A cushion under the hips, a pillow behind the shoulders, and the toy within arm's reach before you start all reduce the twisting that makes joints complain. Keep the controls on the side of your stronger hand. Warm the room, because cold muscles are stiffer muscles, and keep a towel nearby so nothing needs improvising halfway through.
Take the intensity slowly. The vibrator intensity guide explains why starting low is kinder on sensitive skin, and the guide to using a vibrator with a partner is useful if you would rather hand over the controls entirely.
Pace, and permission to stop
The last piece is not a product. Sore hands make people rush, and rushing makes the whole thing feel like a task. Plan for a shorter session, stop when a hand starts to ache rather than after it has seized, and treat a change of position as normal rather than as failure. If a toy has been sitting unused because it is awkward to hold, that is a sign the toy is wrong, not that you are.
Sex toys and travel: what to pack and how to carry it
A hotel room, a weekend away, a week at a rented cottage: the change of scene is half the appeal, and the toy you left at home is the thing you think about on the second night. Travelling with a vibrator is not difficult, but the details matter. Pack the wrong toy and you spend the trip worrying about the battery, the noise, or whether it will survive the journey.
Choose a toy that is built to travel
The first rule is size. A toy that fits in a washbag gets used. A toy that needs its own compartment usually stays in the case.
The LELO Sona 2 Travel is the obvious starting point because it is the travel version of a full sized toy, with a cover that doubles as a case. The LELO DOT Travel is smaller again and takes up no more room than a lipstick. If you prefer something simple and cheap to lose, a bullet is ideal, and the Tabooboo Lunch Break bullet is named for exactly that use. The Svakom Tulip and the Nauti silicone bullet are the same idea in rechargeable and simple forms.
For couples, an egg adds a second controller without a second bag. The Mina Divine love egg is the straightforward version, and the Loving Joy remote controlled egg gives the partner the controls. If you are travelling apart rather than together, an app controlled toy is the better choice, and the Svakom Ella Neo is designed for that, as our guide to app controlled toys explains.
Batteries, chargers and the travel lock
Rechargeable toys travel better than battery ones, but lithium batteries have rules. Anything with a built in lithium battery should go in your hand luggage rather than the hold, because airlines restrict lithium batteries in checked bags. Security staff see toys constantly and will not comment, but a toy that has switched itself on inside a suitcase will be heard by everyone in the baggage queue.
Most rechargeable toys have a travel lock, usually a long press on the power button that makes the motor flash twice. Use it every time. Pack the charging cable with the toy, and check the plug or USB adapter you are taking works abroad before you leave. A dead toy on the second night is a self inflicted wound.
Lubricant, and the liquid rules
Lubricant is where most people get caught out. Airport security still limits liquids in hand luggage, and the rules vary by airport as new scanners roll out across the UK, so check the airport you are flying from rather than assuming. Travel sizes solve the problem entirely.
The Lubido water based lubricant and the Loving Joy Slide lubricant both come in small bottles that fit a clear bag. The Loving Joy Silky lubricant is the thicker option if you find thin lubricants dry out. A silicone lubricant in a travel size lasts longer between applications, which is useful on holiday, but remember it must not be used with a silicone toy. The hybrid travel bottle is the compromise: it lasts longer than water based and is safe with every toy material.
If the two of you want something to do on a rainy evening, the Sex in the City travel kit is a game that packs flat.
Packing it discreetly
Clean and dry every toy before it goes in the case. A toy packed damp arrives smelling of the inside of a suitcase, and silicone picks up lint. Our guide to cleaning your toys covers the quick version, and the discreet storage guide has pouches and boxes that keep toys separate from everything else.
A cotton pouch or a clean sock does the job. Keep toys out of a hot car or a sunny windowsill, because heat degrades both silicone and batteries. If you are staying somewhere with cleaners, use the room safe or keep the pouch at the bottom of a washbag rather than on the bedside table.
Coming home
Unpack, clean everything properly and charge the batteries before the toy goes back in the drawer. Then you are not doing this in a rush before the next trip.
Travel is one of the few times you get to be completely private with your partner, or completely alone with yourself, without the usual interruptions. Take the toy that makes that easy and leave the rest at home.
Halloween roleplay ideas: costumes, masks and light bondage
Halloween is the one night of the year when dressing up is entirely normal, and that is exactly why it suits adult roleplay so well. A costume gives both partners permission to behave a little differently, and the best Halloween roleplay ideas borrow from fancy dress without needing a shelf full of specialist props. You can build a spooky night in from four simple layers, a costume, a mask or hood, some light bondage, and one or two finishing touches. Here is how to put those layers together so the evening feels like an occasion rather than an experiment.
Start with a costume you can wear again
The smartest Halloween lingerie buys are pieces that still earn their place after 31 October. A gloved leopard print catsuit is a classic cat burglar look that works as boudoir wear all year, and gloves included means one less accessory to hunt for. A fence net crop top and bottoms is an easy two piece that layers over things you already own, which makes it a good first costume if you are new to this. If you prefer something that covers more of the body, a rhinestone crotchless bodystocking goes under a blazer for the party and does a very different job at home afterwards. Fishnet thigh highs with rhinestones finish almost any of these looks without any sewing, safety pins or last minute panic. Our guide to costumes for couples has more ideas if you want both partners dressed rather than one.
Masks and hoods set the mood faster than any prop
A mask changes how a room feels the moment you put it on, which is why it is the most efficient Halloween upgrade you can make. A kitty cat face mask keeps things playful and is the friendliest entry into masked play, while a dog mask leans into the headspace we cover in our pet play for beginners guide. For something more atmospheric, an open eyed hood hides identity but leaves sight intact, which most beginners find far more comfortable than full darkness. If you want the middle ground between a mask and a blackout, a beginners blindfold paired with an eye mask and feather tickler kit gives you sensory play with a built in tease. Our gags and masks guide and our piece on blindfolds and sensory deprivation explain how to choose between them.
Light bondage for beginners
Halloween is the night many people try restraints for the first time, and soft cuffs are the right starting point. Furry handcuffs are comfortable, quick to remove and easy to explain to a nervous partner. Candy cuffs bring colour and look more like a party favour than a bondage kit, which lowers the stakes nicely for a first try. If a collar and lead suit your costume, a leather collar with a matching leather leash pairs with almost any outfit, from a catsuit to a simple little black dress. Start with wrists rather than ankles, keep every restraint loose enough to slip off with a twist, and never leave anyone restrained and unattended. The safety basics matter more than the gear, so read our bondage safety and aftercare guide before the first attempt.
Small finishing touches
Tail plugs are the cheekiest Halloween accessory and they are surprisingly easy to wear. A white bunny tail plug completes a bunny costume, and a black panther tail plug works with the catsuit look. Wear one for the evening rather than all night, use plenty of water based lube for insertion, and choose a flared base, which every plug in that range has.
Keep it simple and keep it kind
The Halloween roleplay ideas that work best are the shortest ones. Pick one costume, one mask or restraint idea, and one finishing touch, then save the rest for next year. Agree a safe word before any masks go on, check in once or twice during the evening, and plan the end of the night as carefully as the start, with drinks, conversation and no rush. That aftercare habit is what turns a fun one off experiment into something a couple repeats, and it is the reason our favourite Halloween advice is also the oldest one in the bedroom: go smaller than you think, and enjoy more than you expected.
Battery operated vibrators: what to know before you buy
"Battery operated" is the wrong name for most of the toys we sell, and that is exactly why this guide exists. If you have been searching for a battery powered vibrator, you probably mean a toy that does not need to be plugged in, does not need a phone app, and will still be going in two years. Good news: that is a real, sensible way to buy. This guide tells you what the different power options mean, what to check on the product page, and which of our battery run toys fit the bill.
The power lineup in plain English
Most vibrators sold today are USB rechargeable, which is usually the most convenient option. The toy charges from a cable, holds its charge between uses, and there are no batteries to buy. If you want the lowest fuss, a rechargeable toy is normally the pick.
Then there are toys that run on replaceable batteries, typically two AA, two AAA, or a button cell. They are the old school option and that is not an insult: they are cheap to run, never die mid-session with no cable to hand, and they are simple to keep working for years. The honest trade-offs are that you need spares in the house, and the battery door is one more thing to keep clean.
There is a myth that battery toys are weaker than rechargeable ones. It is not true at the price points we stock. Power comes from the motor, not the battery type. What actually matters is where the buttons are, how quiet it is, and how easy it is to clean, which is exactly what our guide to reading a product listing walks through.
What to check before you buy a battery vibrator
Three things, none of them hard. First, the battery type, which every product page lists. AA and AAA are easy to find anywhere; button cells (LR44, for example) are less common at the corner shop, so buy spares online at the same time as the toy. Second, how many batteries it takes and whether they are included. Most of our toys arrive without batteries, so assume you are buying them separately. Third, the controls. With no app and no cable, the buttons on the toy are the whole interface, so look at the photo and check the switch is somewhere your thumb will find it.
Battery vibrators we stock today
All of these are in stock now, and all are powered by replaceable batteries, so none of them will ever be an ornament because you lost the charging cable.
If you want a straightforward first vibrator, the Loving Joy Bully Boy Realistic Vibrator runs on two AA batteries and keeps things simple. The 7 inch Realistic Vibrator Vanilla is the same idea a step larger, and the 9.5 inch option is there if you want more length. For something that buzzes rather than thrusts, the Gaia Biodegradable Eco Vibrator is a gentle, planet friendly pick on two AA batteries.
Suction fans should look at the Loving Joy 10 Function Clitoral Suction Vibrator. Rabbit fans get the Jessica Rabbit Textured Rabbit Vibrator for dual stimulation, or the Ultimate Plus if you want the full four battery experience. The Realistic Multi Speed Vibrator Slim is the classic shape with multiple speeds on two AA batteries.
Battery power is not just for the obvious toys. The Loving Joy Swirl Vibrating Butt Plug runs on one AAA, the Rev-Pro Vibrating Prostate Massager on one AAA, and the Loving Joy Silicone Vibrating Cock and Ball Ring runs on button cells small enough that keeping spares in a drawer costs pennies.
The last word
Buying a battery powered vibrator is not a compromise, it is a choice about convenience. Rechargeable toys win on cable free living; battery toys win on simplicity, cheap running costs, and never waiting for a charge. If you want the whole battery run range in one place, the store's battery powered vibrators page is the full list, and the stock there updates automatically as things sell out.
Discreet delivery, packaging and billing: what to expect when you order
Ordering adult products online for the first time comes with a specific set of worries. Will the courier know what is inside? Will the shop's name be on the parcel? Will the payment show up on a shared bank statement? Those are fair questions, and none of them need guessing. Here is what actually happens when you order, taken from our own delivery and policy pages.
What the parcel looks like
Every order is packed in plain, unbranded packaging and leaves our UK warehouse that way. There is no Lushplay name on the outside of the parcel, no logo and nothing on the label that tells the courier, a neighbour or a flatmate what is inside. If you need to send something back, the same principle applies in reverse: you post it in ordinary packaging, not a branded box.
What appears on your bank statement
This is the question people ask most. Lushplay is the shop name, but the company behind it is Notre Marque Ltd, as set out in our Privacy Policy. The name on a card statement does not always match the name on a website, so if your statement is shared with a partner or a parent, check our Discreet Packaging and Billing page before you order.
Delivery options and how long they take
We offer three UK services. Evri Standard is expected to arrive within two to three working days. Evri Express is expected within one to two days, including Saturdays. Next Day Delivery is expected the following working day.
Orders placed before 2pm from Monday to Friday are dispatched the same day where we can, though same-day dispatch is not guaranteed. Anything placed after the 2pm cut-off on a weekday, or after 2pm on a Friday, is shipped on the following Monday. Delivery to certain AB, DD, FK, TD and PH postcodes, plus Northern Ireland, the Highlands and Islands of Scotland and the Isles of Scilly, can take up to two working days longer. If you are working to a deadline, order earlier rather than later.
Next-day is our fastest service, but it is not a guaranteed next-day promise. In most cases parcels do arrive the next working day.
Tracking, emails and who else might see it
Once your order is dispatched you get a confirmation email with tracking details, so make sure the email address you enter at checkout is one you read and are happy to have on file. A typo means you miss the tracking link and any collection code you might need.
Tracking emails are also the part of the process that lands in your inbox, so if you share an email account, sort that out before you order rather than after.
Collection points and safe places
We cannot ship directly to an Evri ParcelShop at the time of ordering, but once tracking has been issued you may be offered the option to divert the parcel to a nearby ParcelShop for collection. That helps if nobody is home during the day.
Be aware of the flip side. If you are out when the courier calls, they may leave the parcel in a safe place or with a neighbour, depending on the service. If that would be awkward, choose a service with a collection or divert option, or arrange to be in.
If something is not right
Returns on intimate products follow the same hygiene rules you would expect from any adult retailer, so read the Returns Policy before ordering. Unwanted items must be unused, in their original condition and packaging (including any shrink wrapping or seals), and returned within 14 days of receipt. Return postage is at your own cost. Sealed items that have been opened are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.
Faulty goods are different: there is a one-year guarantee from the date of purchase, and the policy asks for a short video showing the fault. If you are unsure which situation applies, contact us before posting anything back.
Keeping it private once it arrives
A plain parcel solves the delivery problem. What happens at home is the other half of it. A zip or lockable bag keeps everything together and out of sight: the Safe Sex Anti-Bacterial Toy Bag Large is a simple option. Our guides to discreet toy storage and storing your sex toys cover the detail.
Smaller toys are easier to tuck away. The Mina Whisper Rechargeable Bullet Vibrator and the Nauti Petites 10 Speed Bullet Vibrator are both compact enough for a drawer or a wash bag. Add the Loving Joy Cleanse Sex Toy Cleaner 100ml and everything you need lives in one small place. Our guide to reading a sex toy listing explains the specs worth checking before you buy.
The short version
The parcel is plain and the tracking comes by email. Delivery options and timings are on our Delivery and Packaging page, and if you might need to send something back, read the Returns Policy first. Ten minutes of reading removes most of the worry.

How to Read a Sex Toy Listing: A Buyer’s Guide to the Specs
Reading an adult product listing is mostly decoding shorthand. A page full of words like “premium”, “silicone” and “10 modes” tells you very little, while the details that actually determine whether a product suits you are often buried a few lines further down. The short answer is that you should read four things in order: material, dimensions, power source, and returns policy. Ignore the marketing language entirely. A listing that gives you those four clearly is a good sign about the retailer, and one that hides them is a warning.
Material comes first, and it is not a preference
Material is the one specification with real safety implications. Silicone, glass and stainless steel are non-porous, so they do not trap bacteria and can be cleaned properly between uses. TPE and other realistic materials are softer and often cheaper, but they are porous to varying degrees and need more careful attention to storage and cleaning.
Where a listing says a realistic product is “silicone”, check whether it means a thin coating over a denser core. Products described as dual density, such as the Loving Joy 7 Inch Realistic Silicone Dildo with Suction Cup and Balls, use a firmer inner core with a softer outer layer, which changes both the feel and how the product holds its shape. That is worth knowing before you buy, and it is rarely explained in the first line of a description.
Phthalate-free and body-safe claims are not regulated labels in the same way as a food standard, so treat them as a reasonable signal rather than a guarantee. Avoid anything that cannot tell you what it is made of at all.
Dimensions are the specification people misread most
Dimensions are often given in inches with a metric equivalent, and they usually describe the whole product including any flared base. For anything that goes internally, insertable length matters far more than the headline figure, so look for a stated insertable depth rather than relying on the total length.
A suction cup adds to the overall number but not to the insertable part. That is worth checking on listings like the Bathmate Hydro 7 Penis Pump Clear, where the size on the label refers to the cylinder rather than anything that goes in. Getting this wrong is the most common reason a first purchase disappoints, and it is far easier to avoid than to fix.
Power source and controls decide how you will use it
Battery versus rechargeable matters more than most shoppers expect. A rechargeable product is more convenient and needs no spare batteries, but check whether the cable is included and whether the charge lasts through a session. Battery powered is simpler to replace, and a reputable listing states the type, usually AA.
Control type is the other detail worth checking. Three buttons and a dial is more precise than a single multifunction button, and for anything app-controlled you want to know which platform it works with before buying. The Svakom Phoenix Neo 2 Interactive App Controlled Vibrator is a good example, because app compatibility is the detail that either works for you or does not.
Volume, ranges and device claims
For lubes and gels, the two numbers that matter are volume and base. A 150ml bottle such as the Fisting Gel Strong 150ml is a realistic amount rather than a travel size, and a thicker base is intended for longer sessions. Check which base you are buying rather than assuming.
For adjustable devices, the advertised number is the top of the range rather than the setting most people use. A listing that only gives the maximum, in the case of the Commander USB Rechargeable High Vacuum Electric Penis Pump XL, tells you less than one that also states the starting level and how finely it adjusts.
Returns and discreetness are part of the specification
For this category especially, how a retailer handles returns is part of the product decision. Hygiene policies vary widely, and plain, unmarked packaging with billing that does not reveal the contents is worth looking for before you order. Many stores publish this on a dedicated delivery page, and reading it first avoids an awkward conversation later.
Browse the Lushplay shop when you are ready, and check each listing for those four details before adding anything to your basket.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most important thing to check before buying?
Material if the product touches skin, and insertable depth if it goes internally. Those two determine safety and comfort, and everything else is secondary to getting them right.
How do I know if a product is body safe?
Look for a named material rather than a vague claim. Silicone, glass and stainless steel are the easiest to verify. If a listing does not say what a product is made of, treat that as missing information.
Rechargeable or battery powered?
Rechargeable is more convenient and cheaper to run over time, provided the cable is included. Battery powered is simpler to replace. Either is fine, as long as the listing states which it is and what it needs.
How to Buy Adult Wellness Gifts Without It Being Awkward
Buying an adult wellness gift for a partner is far less awkward than most people expect, and the reason is practical. Almost all of the discomfort comes from uncertainty: not knowing what the recipient already likes, not knowing how discreet the parcel will be, and not knowing when it will arrive. Sort out those three things and the awkward feeling largely disappears. The best approach is a small, low-pressure present from a category your partner already enjoys, rather than something ambitious and unfamiliar.
Start with what they already enjoy
The most reliable rule is to buy a new version of something they already like, not a completely new category. If your partner has ever mentioned a massage oil, a favourite scent or a type of lingerie they like, you have already been given the answer. You are not guessing, you are removing one variable from a decision you already know the outcome of.
This also protects you from the most common gifting mistake here, which is choosing something technical or unfamiliar. A first gift should be easy to use and hard to misinterpret.
Good first gifts that carry very little risk
A massage oil is close to an ideal first adult gift. It works for anyone, needs no explanation, and extends the evening rather than replacing it. The Earthly Body Massage Oil Gift Set Box arrives ready to give, while the Earthly Body Edible Massage Oil is a simpler single-bottle option if you would rather keep the parcel small.
Lubricant is a genuinely useful present rather than a novelty one, and it is one of the few things people run out of and forget to replace. A multi-pack such as the Loving Joy Flavoured Lubricant Set covers several bases in one gift, and is the easiest adult purchase to hand over without commentary, because it is simply practical.
Lingerie works well if you already know their usual size and style. Sets are easier to buy blind than individual pieces because the sizing risk is spread across both items. The Lovers Candy Bra and G-String Set reads as a treat rather than a purchase for one specific occasion.
Candles need a caveat. Wax play products such as the Bound to Play Hot Wax Candles are popular, but they genuinely burn skin and carry a real burn risk. They suit someone experienced who already knows how to use them safely, and are a poor choice as a surprise first gift.
Discreet packaging is the part that matters most
Far more people worry about the delivery than the gift itself. A parcel that gives away its contents in front of housemates, family or a neighbour can undo all the thought you put into choosing something nice.
Before you order, check what the brand says about packaging and what appears on the label. We send everything in plain, unmarked packaging with discreet billing, so nothing on the outside reveals what is inside.
Allow more time than you think you need
The most common gifting failure we hear about is not the wrong product. It is the parcel arriving on the wrong day. If it needs to land on a specific date, order well ahead and pay for guaranteed delivery rather than hoping.
Also consider the recipient’s home situation. If you are not sure the parcel will not be sitting uncollected in a shared hallway, arrange delivery that requires a signature, or have it sent to your own address and bring it over.
How to actually hand it over
Most of the awkwardness is in the handover, not the gift. Let them open it themselves, without commentary. Do not announce what it is, do not apologise for it, and do not ask whether they like it straight away. A gift opened privately is far less stressful than one opened on a doorstep.
Give it in a context that already makes sense. Handing something over at the start of an evening you have planned together sets up a much better reception than surprise timing with no context. And keep the tone light: treating an adult wellness purchase as an ordinary purchase is what makes it feel normal rather than nerve-wracking.
When to spend a little more
If you want a larger gift, the safest upgrade is quantity or presentation rather than complexity. A small collection within categories they already enjoy gives a generous impression without introducing a product they might never use. A single ambitious item carries more risk than three simple ones.
Browse the Lushplay shop when you are ready, and check the delivery and packaging information on the site before you order.
Frequently asked questions
What is the least awkward adult gift to buy?
Something practical and familiar, such as a massage oil or a lubricant, given privately and without commentary. Gifts that need no explanation and can be used without instructions cause the least pressure.
Will the packaging give away the contents?
At Lushplay everything is sent in plain, unmarked packaging with discreet billing. Nothing on the outside indicates what is inside. Always check a retailer’s delivery page before ordering.
Should I buy something they have not used before?
Not as a first gift. Introducing an unfamiliar category adds pressure, because they may feel they are being tested on it. A new scent or brand within a category they already enjoy is a safer way to add novelty.
